(Tech.) degree from the Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland in 1998 about modelling and simulation of distributed communication environments. His interests include wireless networks, ad-hoc networking, peer-to-peer computing, aspects of Grid computing as well as distributed computing and distributed environments. Prof. Porras acts as the representative of Lappeenranta University of Technology in the Wireless World Research Forum (WWRF) and a representative of Academy of Finland at MiNEMA (Middleware for Network Eccentric and Mobile Applications) Research Network steering group.

I have been granted the lecturer of the year prize by the Lappeenranta University of Technology in 2000.
