Big data means data so large that it can not be processed in usual ways. In this case new data is being gathered faster than it can be processed. Big data can be very useful for companies to operate more efficiently etc.

Big data is defined with 3 Vs: volume, velocity, variety: data sets are big, data needs to be analysed fast, data can be in different formats.
